Fire safety

As your landlord, we make sure that your home meets the relevant fire safety standards

There are some steps you can take to protect yourselves and reduce the risk of fire:

  • You're four times more likely to die in a house fire if you don't have a working smoke alarm. Join in with #TestItTuesday and test your smoke alarm weekly
  • Most household fires start in the kitchen. Take care when cooking by turning pan handles inwards and keeping them away from children. Never leave your cooking unattended
  • Avoid overloading sockets and pull out any plugs you aren't using
  • Make a habit of completing bedtime checks. Switching off electrical items and closing doors can reduce the risk of a fire starting and spreading

There are lots of things you can do to keep you and your home safe. Take a look at your Tenants Handbook for more tips and information.

If a fire breaks out in your home, call 999 immediately

We hope you never have to deal with a household fire but it's always helpful to have a plan of action and know what to do in an emergency.  It's a good idea to make sure young children, older people and anyone who may be vulernable knows what to do, just in case.
