Drivers

If you enjoy driving and want to help your community, we'd love to hear from you.

Driving and using public transport can be challenging for some, especially those with health conditions or restricted mobility. Being able to get from A to B, however, is crucial for maintaining a healthy, happy lifestyle.

You will be driving customers to and from social visits, shopping trips, activities and appointments. This means our Later Living customers don’t have to feel reliant on family or friends whenever they want to go out - helping them to stay independent, active and social.

How does it work?

Our volunteer drivers offer transport services that help people get to where they need to go.

This is a flexible voluntary role that can easily fit in around your own lifestyle and availability.

We ask our customers to give us at least 10 days' notice if they need help with geting to and from an upcoming appointment or visit. We will be in touch with you to see if you can help - and if you can, great! Then we'll start to organise specifics.

You'll meet our tenant at their Later Living development, taking them to their destination and picking them up again at the agreed times.

What skills do I need?

We're looking for some GREAT volunteers who...

  • Have a valid, clean, UK Driving License
  • Own their own vehicle with valid insurance (please note - you must make your insurance company aware of your volunteering role)
  • Have a basic disclosure (we can assist with this)
  • Are safe drivers and have good awareness
  • Have good people skills
  • Are reliable, punctual and trustworthy
  • Are patient, empathetic and understanding of the needs of our customers

Any questions?

Our Volunteer & Activities Coordinator, Bryony McCulloch, will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about our volunteering roles. You can reach her via email at bryonym@loreburn.org.uk
