Loreburn has confirmed it will no longer be leading the proposed large scale housing development in Langholm. The decision follows a comprehensive review of the organisation’s strategic priorities and reflects a renewed focus on community impact, sustainable homes and long term financial resilience.
Over recent months, Loreburn has been reviewing how best to use its resources to deliver affordable high quality homes across Dumfries and Galloway. The outcome of that review is a refreshed strategy that prioritises smaller community led developments and targeted investment that closely aligns with Dumfries and Galloway council's local housing strategy.
Chief Executive Kirsteen McGinn explained the reasons behind the decision:
“We understand this will be disappointing news for some in the Langholm community. However, following a thorough review of our priorities and long term objectives, it is the right decision for Loreburn and for the communities we serve.
Our refreshed strategy will ensure we remain financially resilient and focused on delivering high quality and sustainable new homes that meet genuine local need. By focusing on smaller, more sustainable developments, we can continue to deliver quality homes and support our tenants and communities where it’s needed most.”
Continuing Commitment to Langholm
Although Loreburn will not be progressing the Langholm development directly, the Association remains committed to the town and to the wider region. Loreburn will work with any potential purchasers or developers of the site to help ensure that local needs and aspirations continue to be met.
Kirsteen added:
“We remain fully committed to Langholm and to Dumfries and Galloway as a whole. While we won’t be leading this particular development, we are keen to continue supporting local ambitions — whether that’s through partnership working, advice, or helping community-led housing projects get off the ground.”
Looking Ahead
Loreburn’s decision follows a recent strategic planning process which emphasised the need to refocus resources, strengthen community connections, and build on strong financial foundations to ensure a sustainable future for the organisation and those it serves.
