Important Notice: Portable Gas Appliances

Important Notice:  Portable Gas Appliances

We would like to remind all tenants that the use of gas appliances in our homes is strictly prohibited. This includes gas heaters, portable gas stoves, portable lamps and any other equipment powered by bottled LPG or paraffin gas.

This rule is in place to protect you, your family, and your neighbours. Portable gas appliances can present serious risks, including:

  • Fire hazards – increased risk of uncontrolled fires.
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning – a colourless, odourless gas that can be fatal.
  • Explosion risks – particularly with bottled gas stored indoors.
  • Damage to property – excess moisture leads to damp and mould, causing costly repairs and health issues.

If you currently have a portable gas appliance, it must be removed immediately.  If you are unsure whether an appliance is safe or permitted, please contact our Property Services team.

For heating faults and breakdowns, contact our Repairs Service or if you would like advice or support with heating costs, please liaise with your Income Officer or visit the Help & Advice page.
