Gary Alison

I am a born and bred Doonhamer. After leaving school I went to the University of Paisley at the Crichton Campus in Dumfries. I graduated in 2007 with a degree in Accountancy And Business with Distinction. In my second year at university I was awarded 2nd place overall for the whole of the year.

Accountancy was always a subject that interested me and upon graduating from university I embarked on a career as an accountant. I joined one of the local Chartered Accountancy firms in Dumfries and trained to be a Chartered Accountant. I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2011. After I qualified as a Chartered Accountant I had a brief stint in internal audit with the NHS and then moved to another accountancy practice in Dumfries. My experience during this time was mainly helping owner managed business prepare their accounts and tax returns. This involved preparation of accounts and tax returns for sole traders, partnerships, charities, Ltd companies and LLP’s. I was also involved in leading audit teams to audit some of the larger business’s in the client portfolio of both firms. More recently I managed my own client portfolio which involved such things as helping clients ensure their business was structured correctly, advising on succession planning and general tax planning advice. I was also part of the local leadership team with a task of growing the business. I am also a part qualified tax professional.

I moved to Loreburn in October 2016 as I seen the job as an opportunity to use my skills as a Chartered Accountant to help make a difference locally. I am passionate about Dumfries & Galloway and Loreburn’s mission of creating great place to live in Dumfries & Galloway was something I could see me helping them achieve. My experience of Financial Reporting and my commercial mind-set are two key attributes that I think will add value to Loreburn.

Working for Loreburn as Finance and Procurement manager is a really challenging role with no two days the same. Our tenant lead approach always means we a striving for GREAT things.  My role is to report on the Finances of the business to enable to Director of Finance and Management Committee to make strategic decisions for both Loreburn and its subsidiary company, Dumfries & Galloway Homes. I am also the lead on procurement to ensure best practice is followed and that we achieve our aim of value for money for our tenants.

Outside of work I am a keen golfer and play most weeks. I have a young family and the remainder of my time is spent doing things with them.
