Hi, I’m Elkie Astley your Head of People & Culture. I joined Loreburn in September 2018 and have arrived from Dumfries & Galloway Council after 13 years, where I worked most recently as an HR Business Partner, and prior to that have held a variety of HR posts both managerial and officer level.
I started my HR career back in 2002 with DGHP working as an HR Assistant and prior to that worked for a legal firm in the town for 5 years. I am from Dumfries and live locally with my young family. My spare time is taken up with my family and friends. I have two children and two fur babies, otherwise known as Brodie and Hercules my very spoiled Beagles. I enjoy spending my weekends getting out and about walking and exploring our wonderful countryside and coastlines.
My role at Loreburn is to help shape Loreburn’s People and Culture function to meet the needs of the business. Contribute to Loreburn’s goal of agile working, developing people to embrace a growth mindset to try their best and to learn from mistakes to improve not only themselves but Loreburn. To ensure our GREAT values are lived and applied by us all, ensuring people are aware of their responsibilities and accountabilities. To lead succession planning and performance management. To Lead change and to provide clear, practical advice to managers to help implement. To develop, review and update People Policies, guidance, briefing documents and the Handbook. To ensure people are applying their learning and sharing with their colleagues and teams to add value to Loreburn. To lead by example and be here for you.
I bring 15 years of HR and OD knowledge and experience to Loreburn. I am a chartered member of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development). I am experienced in employment law and keep myself updated with changes to case law. I have had exposure to a lot of people related issues throughout my career and nothing ever surprises me when dealing with people. From restructures and redundancy, absence management, discipline and grievance, change management, succession planning to recruitment, culture and employee engagement. I’m looking forward to putting all my knowledge and experience to good use for Loreburn and am looking forward to working with you all to help make Loreburn the best it can be.
