My working life was in the textile industry, and I came to Dumfries & Galloway in 1979 to run a clothing company based in Stranraer. My family and I settled so well in the area that a planned 4 year stay extended, I retired and we are still here!
On a voluntary basis I have been involved at Board level with a number of organisations, with an emphasis on economic development and education/training. These included Scottish Enterprise Dumfries & Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway College, and I am currently Chair of WRDC (Enterprise Trust) Ltd. I have also been a Business Advisor for the Princes Trust Youth Business Scotland, and Business Mentoring Scotland.
I joined the Management Committee of Loreburn in 2012, because I firmly believe that improving the economy and providing high quality, affordable housing are two key ways we can improve the wellbeing of people in Dumfries & Galloway. I have seen at first hand the improvement in quality of life that Loreburn can bring to its tenants, and I hope that my skills and experience can help the Association continue the great work it has undertaken over recent years.
