D&G HandyVan Service
D&G HandyVan delivers the Small Repair & Home Support Service on behalf of Dumfries & Galloway Council via Loreburn Housing Association’s Care & Repair. A registered Scottish Charity, the service is available to homeowners or a tenant of a private landlord who are either Over 60, Disabled, have learning difficulties or mental health problems, or is a victim of domestic abuse. This service entitles you to two 2 hourly visits in one year.
Assistance is given under four main categories: Home Security, Small Repairs, Falls Prevention, and Minor Adaptions. Every referral is assessed based on the vulnerability of the client and their needs. If unable to assist, DG HandyVan will endeavour to signpost each client to where assistance may be obtained. Referrals can be made through the following - Self referrals, Social Services, Carers, Police Scotland or Fire & Rescue Service, Day Centres, Food Train, Family, and neighbours.
The service can include, but is not limited to:
- fitting of smoke & CO2 detectors
- fitting of door and window locks
- small joinery work such as erecting shelves, curtain rails, grab rails
- small plumbing work such as fixing leaking taps
- fitting of socket safes
- fitting of key safes
