Types of Adaptation

There are many types of adaptation works that can be done to improve both the quality of a person's life as well as their independence.  Mobility issues can be very debilitating and may lead to a current home becoming unsuitable due to difficulties with bathing, for example.  

Following a referral to the Occupational Therapist, their assessment and recommendation, and if suitable funding is available, works can be carried out.  Replacing a bath with a shower unit, either level access or with a slight step, is a common and effective adaptation.  Items such as non-slip flooring, grab rails, extractor fans, isolator switches and drain pumps may further complement the works in order to provide and maintain a long term safe and hygenic solution.  

In certain circumstances portable hoists have been fitted to allow support workers and family to assist an individual within their own home.
