Cooking meals from scratch has sadly faded over recent years with the increase in convenience foods and busier lifestyles causing more and more people to lose touch with this once essential life skill.

Let’s Cook is a project organised through NHS Dumfries & Galloway that encourages people to step back into the kitchen and start making mealtimes special so that everyone can learn to enjoy eating healthy, affordable home-cooked food.

Our staff and customers at Loreburn benefit greatly from the information and guidance received through the numerous Let’s Cook sessions that are held across the region. Many perceived barriers to cooking are broken down, and simple, practical advice is given to help build skills and develop confidence.

The sessions are fun, friendly and FREE. (Plus you get to eat what you cook!)

Let's CookHelp and instruction on the following points are discussed:

  • Simple, straightforward recipes
  • Fresh ingredients
  • Food preparation skills
  • Basic nutrition
  • Understanding food labelling
  • Healthy eating advice and tips
  • Affordable meals and budgeting
  • Ideas for snacks and lunch boxes

Depending on what is required, sessions can consist of groups, pairs, or individuals and generally last for approximately 2 hours over a course of 4-6 weeks. They are a great way to meet new people and share ideas and recipes.
