The Galloway Gateway has been developed by Loreburn Housing Association in 2016 as a social enterprise with a vision of ‘Rebalancing the Region’, aspiring to improve the equality of access to services in the across the whole of Dumfries & Galloway.
Through intergenerational projects and partnership working, Galloway Gateway aims to alleviate two specific challenges that the region faces; a population ageing more rapidly than average, and youth unemployment.
The concept of the Galloway Gateway has initially focused upon the Stewartry and Wigtownshire Health and Social Care Localities due to issues such as high levels of social isolation and poor public transportation links.
Partnership working is crucial to the success of Galloway Gateway and to ensure that positive outcomes are maximised in line with legislative considerations. Building on strong existing links with Dumfries and Galloway NHS, Let’s Get Sporty, Dumfries and Galloway College and Dumfries and Galloway Council Employability Team, Galloway Gateway is keen to establish and develop new working relationships to help drive projects forward.
Working together, local health and wellbeing needs can be challenged through provision of Social Prescribing, community action learning, team building and event services.
As the Galloway Gateway develops the activities will support the development of a Foyer in Stranraer, and look to expand and implement other locally appropriate projects into communities across Dumfries & Galloway.
