We are delighted to announce that our very first Breakfast Club commenced on Monday 12th September at Belmont Primary school in Stranraer and will run every Monday and Wednesday morning throughout the 2016/17 school term.
Breakfast Clubs provide an ideal opportunity for children to have a healthy morning meal in a secure friendly environment, and raise their awareness of good nutrition, personal well-being and how to establish a healthy lifestyle.
In line with the Scottish Government’s ‘Better Eating, Better Learning’ Initiative, clubs such as these not only promote health and nutrition, they can improve children’s’ ability to learn, concentration levels, attendance levels and punctuality.
As Stranraer was highlighted as an area for concern in the recent Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation, we are keen to do what we can to address issues such as food poverty and education.
With schools playing a pivotal role within the community, we are fortunate to have other local businesses that are keen for this project to be successful. Tesco Stranraer and Simpsons Bakers have been instrumental in enabling us to take this forward with Belmont Primary school. We are very grateful for their contributions and support.
We hope that these partnerships will continue to be successful and lead to other initiatives that will further benefit our communities.
